Our Story
Meyler’s has become a cornerstone of South Wexford. With our Bar in operation for over 180 years, and our Restaurant for over 27 years, we have a long and eventful history.
Meyler’s Millhouse was first opened as a Bar and Grocery store in 1846, overlooking the Tacumshane windmill, which is the countries oldest and only original windmill. The windmill has been important to shaping our identity. The Bar and Grocery store was taken over by Mike Meyler in 1953, Mike prided himself in holding the line against modernity.
Mike’s son Gerry, took over the running of the premises in 1999, and with his wife Teresa built an extension to the lounge, where they first started serving food. A further extension was made to the premises in 2004. In course, with the demand for our renowned food, a 60 seater restaurant was then built, with further extensions also made to our Kitchen. In the 27 years of food service, we have become renowned locally for our food.
We serve food three days a week over the winter months, and five days a week over the summer season, we are now also serving breakfast on Sundays from 10am-12pm - which is a new concept for Meyler’s that has been met with great local support. Our Bar is open 7 days a week.
